Powder-coated surfaces are extremely tough and durable. But, like most things, they do require care and maintenance from time to time.
Dirt, oils, salts, organic matter and pollution can accumulate on coated surfaces. These contaminants can slowly wear down powder-coated surfaces over the course of time. Regular cleaning and maintenance will extend the lifespan and finish of coated surfaces.
You may be wondering whether it is worthwhile to clean a powder-coated surface. Well, yes! A well maintained and regularly cleaned powder-coated surface can last up to 40 years!
How to Clean a Powder Coated Surface:
Cleaning powder coated surfaces is a straight forward process.
Use a non-abrasive cloth and a non-corrosive cleaning product to wipe the surface. We recommend using a soft microfiber cloth with warm water and mild household detergent.
Rinse surfaces with fresh water afterwards to remove all traces of the non-corrosive cleaning product.
Allow to naturally dry.
There are also a few tips to keep in mind while cleaning the powder-coated surface:
Avoid rubbing surfaces excessively.
Clean powder-coated surfaces when the temperature is below 25°C.
Corrosive cleaning products include turpentine, spirit-based cleaners, thinners and citrus-based cleaners.
How Often Should Powder Coated Surfaces be Cleaned?
The frequency of routine powder-coated surface cleaning should vary according to the environment in which the surface resides in.
In general, all powder coated surfaces should be cleaned every 12 months.
However, powder-coated surfaces exposed to the following environments should be cleaned every three to six months:
Direct sunlight and high levels of ultraviolet light.
Coastal environments.
High atmospheric pollution from dirt, oils, pollution (eg. an industrial estate).
High winds, particularly in dusty environments.
High humidity.
High touch surfaces.
With these tips in mind, and a strict cleaning and maintenance schedule in place, your powder coated surface should last years and years!
